CREDITON GALLERY SHOWS OFF PETER LAYTON'S MAGICAL GLASS |

Crediton art gallery Spinnakers has been chosen by internationally renowned glass blower Peter Layton to be an outlet for his highly collectable work.He is one of the most highly regarded glass blowers in the world and has trained many of the top glass makers. His work is held in museums around the world including the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
Self taught as a glassmaker, Layton's work is organic and tactile, striving to achieve a form of controlled asymmetry. An inveterate beachcomber, his work is often drawn from some aspect of nature or something observed while travelling.
Spinnakers Gallery now holds the largest selection of Peter Layton glass in Devon and Cornwall and has a wide selection of pieces from his latest series - Spirale, Paradiso and Reef, with prices starting from £165. Spirale is his latest series. The technique was developed through experimentation and the pattern spirals around on both sides of the piece, creating an intriguing and beautiful result.
Paradiso represents a more paint and sculptural approach to vessel making in which the flattened forms become the canvas for strong brushstrokes of vivid colour. Paradiso evolved during months of careful colour experimentation to achieve warm, vibrant patterns.
Reef has grown out of a desert inspired series called "Sahara". The pieces have become much more colourful with an underwater character which evokes the Barrier reef.
