| | Changes Afoot!!! LONG AWAITED GALLERY EXTENSION!!! Welcome to the summer issue of our newsletter, with news on the long awaited gallery extension, and what’s new in the gallery! As you read this, work will have started on moving the framing workshop to the barn at the rear of the gallery, to enable us to convert the existing workshop to gallery space. This a very exciting time for us and once completed we will be in a position to increase our stock and run regular exhibitions! We are aiming to officially open the extended gallery in October, and this will coincide with John Rochester’s Venice exhibition, postponed from the spring. We will update you further in the next newsletter, and everyone on our database will receive an invitation to the opening. Artists News NATIONAL SUCCESS FOR GALLERY ARTIST!!! It has been a busy start to the year for John Rochester! First a very successful exhibition at Harbour House in Kingsbridge, was followed by having one of his Venice paintings selected by Woodmansterne to be published as a birthday card (available in the gallery!) Then in April, another of his paintings was selected by the Royal Institute of Painters in Watercolours, for their prestigious annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries in London. Since then his work has been in demand by other galleries, hence the postponement of his Venice exhibition until the autumn. Venetian Reflections – Watercolour by John Rochester £450 | | What’s New ??? EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO EUROPE’S TOP GLASS ARTIST!!!The most exciting development for the gallery came about from our visit to Peter Layton’s glassblowing workshop, whilst we were in London for the Mall Galleries exhibition. As collectors of Peter’s work we were keen to watch the glass being blown, and a chance meeting with Peter in the corridor, led to him offering us the exclusive rights to sell his work in this area! Spirale bowl by Peter Layton £285 Peter Layton Profile Peter established London Glassblowing in 1976, one of the first hot glass studios in Europe. The studio has developed in parallel with the Studio Glass Movement and has had a major influence on both the British and international glass scene. Peter’s work is widely exhibited with pieces in many public & private collections worldwide. He is acknowledged as a glass artist and teacher of international repute, with a policy of combining his own skills with those of fellow glassmakers and students. As a response to a desire to work on a more ambitious scale, Peter has also produced a number of large-scale stainless steel and glass sculptures, commissioned for architectural settings. | |
