John Rochester's latest venice paintings include the well know view from the Accademia Bridge. The Accademia Bridge is a wooden bridge that crosses the Grand Canal in
Venice. You will see it from your boat heading down the Grand Canal. | Grand Canal from the Accademia Bridge, Venice |

If
you decide to explore Venice by foot, the bridge is hard to miss since
many street signs point right to it. The Accademia Bridge was initially built on a temporary basis out of
wood in 1932. It remained in its place because of popularity. The Salute (Basilica di Santa Maria della Salute) is a vast, octagonal building built on a platform made of 100,000 wooden piles. It is full of Marian symbolism – the great dome represents her crown,
the cavernous interior her womb, the eight sides the eight points on
her symbolic star. Santa Maria della Salute lies near the mouth of the Grand Canal,
featuring an imposing white facade and a huge dome. Across the canal
from the church lie two of the city's best luxury hotels: Hotel Gritti
Palace and Hotel Europa and Regina.
